INJECTION MOLDING
Plastic pellets run from a hopper attached to press through a heated barrel which melts the plastic. Molten plastic is then injected at high pressure into a mold and frozen using chiller lines into product shape.
Advantages of Injection Molding
- Quick process speeds/parts per minute
- Multiple cavity molds for massive quantity capability.
- Steel molds endure repeated usage.
- Automated cycles/low manual labor.
- High quality / textured surfaces available.
Disadvantages to Injection Molding
- Steel molds-high tooling costs.
- Volatile cost of petroleum based resins.
Markets:
Agricultural, construction, consumer, and high volume part requirements.
